Beauty that makes a difference!

Aren’t we all doing it? Quietly walking through life as if every day is groundhog day. Wake, get kids off to school, exercise (maybe), go to work or do errands, pick up kids, eat dinner, sleep, repeat. Most of us are half asleep at the wheel. We all “know” our life can change in an instant but until it really does, we all seem to be wearing blinders. I remember recently I went in for a mammogram. I got the dreaded call that something just wasn’t right. Four torturous days until my next scan, I diagnosed myself with stage 4 breast cancer with 3 months to live. I went into FULL PANIC MODE. I didn’t want to die at 42, I had so much still to do, learn and see. Plus how would my children survive with the weight of that loss? How would that effect their future? I was scared shitless.

Last weekend, I went to the Beautycounter summit in Minneapolis. I was nervous to go as I have been focusing so much of my energy on building the store and helping everyone with their travel needs, I put my Beautycounter business on the back burner. The reason I got involved with Beautycounter in the first place you can read here . Boy was that trip a wake up call! It truly reinforced why I feel so strongly about their products. It is the only company that has high-performance skincare and cosmetics that are dedicated to your health. I have tried lots of products at Whole Foods but so many of them are just okay (they smell, weird, don’t last, don’t work, etc) and most of them claim to be safe but they aren’t. Beautycounter uses the strictest screening process in the industry. It still amazes me that the United States has not passed a law since 1938  to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products. It’s absolutely ludicrous. We wonder why cancer, asthma, infertility, allergies are on the rise. The fact that there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today and there is very little safety data, in particular, to those used in the skin care and beauty industry seems preposterous. I left there feeling so proud that I am part of a company that is truly making a difference. In just 4 years, Beautycounter has developed 130 high-performing products ranging from skin care to color cosmetics to anti-aging to kids to baby and personal care collections.

I don’t think anybody needs to change their entire regimen but if you can start with maybe a safer sunscreen, it just may inspire you to swap out a few other harmful products for other high performing safer products. Look, I will be the first person to tell you I am not perfect. Do I get lash extensions? Fuck, yes but I make sure that the glue is not a formaldehyde-based glue. It’s the chemicals on the Never List that I try hard to stay clear of which is why using any of the Beautycounter products takes all the guess work out of it! I updated my first article to include all my favorite new products which are:

I was fortunate enough to get involved with Beautycounter in its infancy and I have helped build an incredible team of like minded women.  After my breast cancer scare (I am ok, all clear) and this past trip to MN, I am, more than ever, dedicated to educating others about the importance of choosing safer products as well as sharing this incredible business opportunity and growing my team of super passionate woman (and men!). The beauty of my job is that I know I am already making a difference and committed to continuing to be an advocate for safer beauty for years to come. I can’t wait to watch the future of this company unfold….
