For the Love of Extensions

I am not ashamed to tell you that my big highlight of the week is the blowout. I HATE drying my hair. I don’t have the patience, the time, the energy and on top of it I can’t do it. I suck at it. PERIOD. I will not make excuses. I constantly end up with a lump in the back of hair that looks awful. I am a sucker for a great blowout and I sometimes go twice a week (SORRY GREG, I know, I know).

Last week I was getting my weekly blowout and Troy (ugh, I hate even telling you because it is hard enough to get in) was telling me what he was bringing the ultimate extensions to New Jersey. He would be the ONLY one qualified in the entire state and they are not your “average extension”. Me, being the skeptic that I am, had 100 questions. First of all what are the “ultimate extensions” and what makes these the best ones out there?

“Ha, well ,he said,  “I have been researching every single extension on the market for over a month. I found Platinum Seamless is the ONLY extension that combines 100% human cuticle hair with an individualized paper gel adhesive. There are no lumps, no plastic, no rigid polyurethane, no glue. You can wear them straight, wavy, up , down, pulled back at the sides, in a ponytail, whatever.” Okay that sounds good to me because I workout everyday and my hair is ALWAYS in a ponytail. The last thing I would want is for someone to notice extensions in my hair. That is BEYOND cheesy.

Troy also said that other hair extension companies simply match the extension from tip to end, not to natural hair color at the root which obviously can cause noticeable color variance. The extension creates an invisible bond.  They are applied flat.

To be honest, I have used the clip in extensions for parties and events but they hurt and they are annoying. I LOVE the look but it is not worth the annoyance. A more permanent solution, I definitely would be happy with. Troy told me the most high-end salons ONLY use Platinum Seamless. John Barrett, Chris Chase, The Waldorf, etc, plus Anne Hathaway’s stylist, Ted Gibson, swears by Platinum Seamless so much he produced a Youtube video!!!

I decided to give it a whirl. I told Troy 2 things have to happen for me to do this:

  1.  I can’t come out looking like a stripper (sorry to the strippers, I know we all have to find a way to make money but some of their extension jobs are over the top)
  2.  He must cut them and blend them in to my hair. Troy laughed and was like obviously I am going to cut them, style them, etc. Great!

Troy matched my hair to the Platinum Color Swatches and ordered them. A few days later, they arrived, I got the text and we were ready to rock. The first part is to wash and prep the hair. After three washes, Troy gave me a quick blow dry and he began to separate my hair into sections: (sorry about the iPad, iPhone situation, I was busy at work while this process was happening) hair2

Next step was to perfectly place the adhesive strip on the part and blend in with my hair

Push the strip down to adhere and voila!

Extension on!

This process takes about an hour. After all the extensions were applied to my scalp, Troy trimmed my hair to have it blend in.  I really didn’t want to show this frontal pic because I literally rolled out of bed to have the extensions done so please pardon my appearance!

Here is the shot from the back! (much better)

photo I know you want the nit and gritty…So here it is. It is $750, it lasts 3 months and it looks darn great. Troy did a FABULOUS JOB! I will still get a blowout once a week. I will still complain that I can’t dry my hair BUT I will say I am in love with Platinum Seamless extensions. They are not heavy. I do not feel like I have ANYTHING is attached to my scalp and I definitely can run my fingers through my hair unable to distinguish which is my hair and which are the extensions. I highly recommend them if you are in the market and you want a full body look. They are priceless.

The bad part is I have to give you his cell (I thought I was special). But if you are interested and want a consult (it’s free), you can call or text Troy at 973-767-7931 at Antonio’s Salon and Spa.
