Cookies for Kids Cancer

This is not an easy subject to write about as we all know how hard it is when a child is diagnosed with cancer. I have had some friends in the past few years whose kids have been diagnosed with pediatric cancer and there is nothing more I want to do than to help in any way I can.  This Saturday at Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park (Millburn) there is a huge event called “Cookies for Kids Cancer”. It will run from 10am-2pm. The weather is supposed to be beautiful and its a great way to support such an incredible cause while enjoying a spectacular day with the kids. There will be face painting, Puppet Shows, Balloon Creations, Preschool of Rock, etc.

What I love about Cookies for Kids Cancer is the idea behind it. It all started in 2007 when Gretchen and Larry Witt’s son, Liam, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Upon his diagnosis, Gretchen decided to raise funds doing what she knew best – Baking! 250 volunteers, friends, colleagues and families, Gretchen baked over 96,000 cookies and raised $400,000 for pediatric cancer research. Word caught on and people started asking “What can we do to help?” By 2008, Cookies for Kids Cancer was born. Businesses and inspiring individuals nationwide began to raise funds for pediatric cancer by hosting local events.

If you have some time on Saturday I think it would be so nice to take a ride over and support an amazing cause. There are several sponsors around town who were kind of enough to be part of this fundraiser such as FlyWheel, Crossfit Veracity, Kings, Splurge Bakery, Jordan Elyse Photography, etc. If you can’t get over there and would like to make a donation, go to their donation page “Cookies for Pediatric Cancer” and give what you can.

Hope to see you there!
