The Playboy Story

A quick funny story.

I don’t remember the age I was when I realized my dad was reading Playboy. He had a monthly subscription to it but I never saw it come through the mail. I only saw it in the bathroom stacked with the other mags for his reading pleasure in the loo.

There was always some naked picture of a beautiful woman on the front cover with some part of her body covered in some provocative manner. I remember asking my dad why he reads these magazines and his answer was always “the articles are great”.

So when my parents were out somewhere,  I found myself reading the articles in the magazine. I have to tell you, he wasn’t kidding. The articles were pretty fantastic.  I didn’t really bother to check out the girls in the mag because frankly I had no interest.

Instead of my father throwing out the magazines, he started putting them in a trunk in the basement. He had hundreds of them! I am not sure if he was saving them  because he thought one day they would be worth something or he was going to go back and read them at some point, or what…

I just don’t know.

BUT my brother found them when he was in 4th Grade and the smart boy that he was, he took them to school.

Yes he took my father’s Playboy magazines to school and started selling them at $20 a pop to his friends.  The Swedish Bikini Team went for $40.  My brother started raking in cash.  He was smart enough to stop though and began selling candy instead. For some redic reason he told my parents what he was doing and my father ended his subscription and that was the end of that.

I don’t know who told me, but did you know on every single cover of Playboy magazine there is a hidden bunny?? (see below – the glove is shaped as a bunny)

 

It can take hours to find it or a minute. It happens to be the best part besides the articles but thought I would share this tid bit of info. I don’t know who still reads Playboy anymore. I think most men read Maxim or Men’s Journal. I think  it would seriously be weird to find one of my friends spouses reading Playbody.

I am not really sure why I shared this story but I was in Barnes and Nobles today and I walked past the  magazine rack. I saw the April 2013 edition of Playboy and I thought to myself, I can’t believe this magazine is still around.
