Welcome to my little world – it’s going to be a fun ride!
I am a Philly girl (now a Jersey girl) who started camp at 5, went to my first dead show at 15, started my first business in my garage at 11 (It wasn’t a real business but I still pretended to play office), dreamt up a fashion line called Escalante when I was 16 but realized I couldn’t draw (that obviously went nowhere). I picked up reading somewhere at the age of 6. I collected all the Roger Hargreaves books (Little Miss Noisy, Mr. Grumpy, Mr. Messy …remember them?) I moved on to Flowers in the Attic and then read every Sweet Valley High book that ever went into production. Jessica and Elizabeth became my fantasy best friends. Since then I probably read a book a week and the best part is I read EVERYTHING!!! From Self Help, Diet, Fiction to my favorite – Autobiographies. I am also a huge movie buff. When you sit down to watch the Oscars and they are giving out the awards for the random documentaries no one has ever heard of, chances are, I have seen at least a few. I like to know what’s out there.
I love to workout (yes I do…. I am addicted). It started when I gained the freshman 15. I came home from SU and my father was like “Amy, your ass is HUGE!” Yup, he did say that. The fact that I remember means it meant a lot. I started Weight Watchers and started running on a 200 year old treadmill. I took the running to outside and ran and ran and ran. When I moved to NYC a year later, I moved into Equinox, got a trainer and started doing what I don’t know. But it worked for some time. I met Mary Lou Henner and became a vegetarian (a real one for years). Josie’s became my favorite restaurant in Manhattan…and then the inevitable happened. I moved out of the city to a little place called Livingston NJ, had kids and the shit hit the fan (Hello Nana’s!). Back on Weight Watchers, Inner Strength, Lifetime Fitness for 2 years. Two pregnancies and lots of extra weight, I was determined to lose it forever. It was then I met Tony Horton. Tony changed my life and my body (more about that at a later date). After 1.5 years with Tony and Shaun T, I met Leo. Leo introduced me to this little, now big, thing called Crossfit. He changed a lot of things but mostly he changed my way of thinking. Never say never and its true… 80% of your results is your diet which leads me to FOOD! I love posting recipes especially healthy ones. I also love eating out, whether its an old fave or something new and fun.
Lastly I am on a quest to be on Shark Tank. I have been working since I was 12. I started out as a babysitter, worked at Sesame Place at 16, spent one summer making subs on the boardwalk, worked in a retail store after school, spent 1 week as a waitress in Manhattan while in college (obv that didn’t work out), worked 5 real years in the fashion business…left a very good job running the Burberry Showroom in the city to become a mom.
After 6 months of having Zach (my first one), I created a children’s accessory line called Shoots and Ladders. It really was a special business that was featured in Daily Candy, In Style Magazine and received a lot of other press. I had many celebrity clients but there just wasn’t enough capital to maintain it. I then joined forces with my old babysitter to create Bubble & Shake Cupcakes. These are the most beautiful cupcakes you will ever see plus they taste amazing! They are worth every cent. They are so beautiful they got us on CUPCAKE WARS! After that experience I decided to give Shannon the biz and move on. She is extremely talented and you should check out her amazing work! It was just too labor intensive for me and not profitable for two people to own the business.
Since I began working on this blog, a few people have contacted me to do their social media, write a few articles and work on some very interesting writing assignments. Truthfully I will not lay down my hat until I have created something you and your neighbor have heard of..what that is..no idea…but I am driven to figure it out. Even if it turns out to be this blog!
Some of you know me as the bag girl, some of you know me as the cupcake girl, some of you know me as the coffee girl, some of you know me as the incessant facebook poster, some of you may know me as the girl who got blackballed from mahjonng (yes I really did) , some of you may know me as the girl who always makes the plans. Lastly some of you may know me as the girl always in Lululemon. As you will see I am all of these things and more! Looking for the next fashion find, greatest new book, an amazing recipe for dinner, hottest new diet, or maybe you just want the dish on what is happening around town…Look no further!
Happy Reading!
xx
