The Affair – Episode 6. Let’s Discuss!

First and Foremost ** SPOILER ALERT. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED YET!

Second…LET’S DISCUSS!!!!

You know I love to write things in bullet points. I find it easier and also a great way when you comment to refer back to the bullet you are dishing about.

1. The show always starts off with highlights from the previous week. We see the last highlight of Noah in the interrogation room when the detective asked Noah if he had ever heard of the nightclub “The End.” To which Noah replied, “No.” How convenient the show starts off at the club “The End”. Notice he blatantly lied?

2. Max, Noah’s BFF, shows up in town and JUST HAPPENS TO KNOW where to score coke? How in the world would he know to ask the taxi driver? Seems off and not believable on Noah’s end.

3. The Bar Scene.

This is the best, in my opinion, Alison has looked all season  (not referencing the scenes with the detective in the present).

Noah’s recollection of her in the tank and jeans

is a zillion times better than her recollection in the most horrific outfit I have yet to see on TV. Where does one even find a denim skirt like that? Little House on the Prairie? She lives in Montauk not Idaho.

4.  Besides the fact that they were dancing to my parents favorite Earth, Wind and Fire song (weird…very weddingish), they were all over each and fully making out IN A CLUB IN HER HOMETOWN. I am assuming they just want to get caught. It’s not like they are in Manhattan at some random nightclub (even that is chancy) but they are together at a club in the smallest town ever. So much for keeping it a secret. Notice how Noah pushes Max in a cab so he can continue on with his escapade. Nice friend, lol. I guess someone wants to get laid!

5. The Hotel

Both sides of the story are pretty on par except for Noah peeing when Alison was showering,  showing how comfortable he is around her. Alison claims she is leaving at 5am to welcome home Cole. This is the first time we see jealousy with Noah when he asks Alison if she is going to welcome home Cole with sex.  Also at this point I could not understand for the life of me how Noah was able to “sleep out”.  If I came home at 5am from partying I think I would have some serious explaining to do. Like sleep on the couch for the next week kind of explaining.

6. The Dock

So now we find out Alison is doing some sketchy shit. Noah follows her at 5am in his big minivan while she is on a bike from dock to taxi dispatch. How she didn’t see him is beyond me.  But I guess that would ruin the plot.

7. Helen

Apparently it is perfectly acceptable to be out until 5am (as I said above). Helen quietly makes reference to the hour that Noah walked in but doesn’t seem to make a big deal. At this point I thought either she doesn’t care at all OR she sort of knows something is up but was chalking it up to a late night with his troubled BFF, Max and didn’t want to start with him.

8. I think Whitney is my favorite character.

9. The Therapist

The scene where Helen mentions that Whitney’s therapist wants them to come in is the breaking point for Helen.  It is about time we see Helen annoyed about Noah’s odd behavior especially their “NONEXISTENT” sex life. When she asks Noah if she is still a good lay. I wanted to vomit. Who says that? LAY? Ew. and then he says you are “The Best Lay.” HA! He is so full of shit.

10. The Lobster Roll

This was, by far, the most uncomfortable scene of the entire show. When Max shows up and throws Noah under the bus about the hour they left the club, I was ready to kill him. What happened to bro’s before ho’s? AND THEN when Noah takes his daughter to the bathroom and Alison knocks on the door and starts making out with Noah while his little girl is in the bathroom next door was so inappropriate. Did you notice how Helen happens to know “Alison’s” name and Noah made mention to Max at the lunch table that Alison was married. How would Noah know that she’s married??

11. I actually think Helen and Max make a cute couple…You know she is running to him in a few episodes, right?

12. When Noah decides to hang after lunch at the Lobster Roll and tries to make it up to Oscar (hate him) for the scene at the in-laws house last week, we see how much of a dick Oscar really is, claiming to have taken Alison’s virginity in such a vulgar, gross way. He is definitely the WORST character on the entire show. Also when Scottie comes to the Lobster roll to claim his “owed” money, Oscar throws a shit fit and fully narc’s the Lockhart’s out to Noah and as we see later “pretends” to call the police. This is when things go crazy.

13. Whether or not Noah confronts Alison at the ranch or Phoebe’s (where he magically broke in), Alison comes clean and we see for the first time her honesty. Alison does not give a shit one way or the other what happens to her. She is in mourning and doesn’t care if she gets caught, lives, dies or goes to space (space, really?). HOWEVER now we can understand why, in the fast forward,  Alison tries so hard to keep things quiet. If the police find out the Lockhart’s are running a side coke scheme, she is fucked. I have to believe that Alison and Noah are corroborating each other’s stories to protect themselves from a much scarier truth. Which is what I am dying to know!

14. The whole drug clean up was the fastest, most organized clean up in history. I thought they were going to bury the coke. We then find out Oscar 100% knows that Alison is sleeping with Noah (which we kind of knew anyway) because Noah was the ONLY person he told he was calling the cops.  G-d I hate him.

15. I forgot to mention earlier that Martin happened to have slept at the Lockhart’s ranch. I think even if I had 10 kids I would check to see if all 10 kids were in bed before I went to bed at night, ya know? Felt terrible when he let the mare “Elizabeth Taylor” run free by accident. Didn’t you?

16. And then Noah rushes home to sexually attack Helen. I would love to know if after 4 kids and 20 years of marriage if married couples still have sex like that? Don’t be shy to answer. I am seriously asking. Obviously Helen is psyched because this was the Noah she had been missing HOWEVER don’t you think she is a tad bit curious what changed his mood?

16. Episode 6 is wrapped up with the guise that Noah is done with Alison. Yeah, right! We shall see…only 4 episodes left. Notice how there was no detective in this episode? I am so looking forward to when he moves back to the city!

What were your take aways?

I Think it’s all a book. Can’t figure out if it’s Noah writing it or Helens father….. Or maybe someone else is the author …. Allison…. Or Helen????… …. Feel like from the “Allison perspective” is dead in but from “Noah’s perspective ” it seems like it’s still coming  from how a woman sees a man. Noah says more then once in different episodes “that he must be dreaming, Allison can’t be real”

    Hmmmmmmm……
Then again I could be totally wrong… Guess we will have to wait n see.

So ridiculous that they behaved that way in the nightclub.  Helen knows something is up….i agree she will go to Max. Coke is easy to get wherever u go. No man f*cks his wife like that when he is having an affair. Cole is soooo hot!

Binge watching and just finished this episode on 2nd day.   Just curious – do you watch this with your husband?   Totally agree with the whole night club scene.  Really. ?  You are going to take such a risk in a small town?  Aren’t there locals working there? What about the taxi drivers that are coming and going?  Not unrealistic to me that a local, young taxi driver would be able to hook a wealthy summer visitor up with drugs.  In the Lobster Roll when Noah said Allison was married, he could have known that from the ranch when he was first there with his kids.  Wasn’t Allison there ?  No, I remember now that he recognized Cole from the sex scene on the car.  Definitely showing that Cole would be a great dad.  Love his interactions with Martin.  When kids are older – 14+ – they often stay up well past their parents.   I am sure Martin left after his parents were asleep.   I found out from reading my son’s texts ( a whole other topic) that when he was 15, he was sneaking out and visiting his girlfriend at 1am.  I had no idea and I am sure the girlfriends parents didn’t either.  I do like Helen and I feel for her.  Picture Allyson after 20 years of marriage and 4 kids – do you think the same passion / novelty/ excitement would be there ?  I can say that after 21 years and 3 kids, we don’t have sex like that … Can’t recall ever having sex like that :). Ok … Ready to watch episode #7.  Thank you for getting me started on this !
